SMALL REEF

Location and Accessibility:
Small Reef is located just a 20-minute boat ride from The Divers Club, nestled between the Bodrum Peninsula and Black Island, adjacent to the famous Big Reef. This site is one of Bodrum’s top diving locations, offering an exciting and dynamic underwater experience.

Dive Features and Route:
Small Reef features a submerged hill, similar to Big Reef, but on a smaller scale. The summit of Small Reef starts at a depth of 6 meters, providing divers with an exhilarating drop-off experience, descending to a maximum depth of 32 meters. This site is perfect for divers looking to experience the thrill of descending into the blue, with the sensation of “flying” as they dive deeper into the waters.

Due to its more compact size, divers can complete two round trips around Small Reef depending on the current conditions and direction. The circular dive route offers divers the opportunity to explore the reef’s rich marine life and topography in greater detail.

Marine Life:
Small Reef boasts a rich diversity of marine species, similar to Big Reef, making it a prime location for divers. Notable species include: Groupers, Tunafish, Bonitos, Barracudas, Jackfish, Learfish, Dentex, Stingrays, Moray eels, Octopuses, Lionfish, Crabs, lobsters, and Tritons

Small Reef is also an excellent location for spotting nudibranchs, providing ample opportunities for underwater photographers. The variety of species and vibrant marine life make this a perfect site for capturing the beauty of Bodrum’s underwater world.

Special Features:

  • Underwater Scooters (DPVs) are highly recommended for those wanting to maximize their dive experience. DPVs allow divers to explore both Big Reef and Small Reef in a single dive, making for an efficient and exhilarating journey.
  • Small Reef’s compact size and rich biodiversity make it one of the finest spots in Bodrum for underwater photography, offering excellent opportunities to capture the intricate details of the marine environment.

Dive Site Characteristics:

  • Maximum Depth: 32 meters
  • Type of Dive: Reef Dive, Wall Dive, Boat Dive
  • Ideal for: Experienced Open Water Divers, Advanced Divers, and those with higher diving qualifications.

Recommendations:

  • The compact nature of Small Reef makes it particularly well-suited for divers who prefer a shorter dive route while still encountering a rich variety of marine life.
  • The strong currents make it essential for divers to have good buoyancy control and an awareness of their surroundings during the dive.
  • As with all Bodrum dive sites, the use of DPVs is encouraged to enhance the exploration of both reefs in a single dive, and to ensure a more enjoyable experience.
