BARRACUDA POINT

Location and Accessibility:
Barracuda Point is located on the northwestern side of Black Island, directly opposite the Bodrum Peninsula. A 25-minute boat ride from The Divers Club takes divers to this renowned dive site, which offers three distinct dive routes to explore. The site’s varied topography and rich marine life make it a must-visit for divers in Bodrum.

Dive Routes:

  1. Dive Route 1 – The Left Wall:
    • Starting Depth: 3 meters
    • Dive Path: The dive begins in shallow waters, where divers can observe posidonia meadows and rock formations. As the dive progresses, the route gradually descends to 18 meters, where a slight turn to the left leads divers to the left wall. This wall extends to a maximum depth of 32 meters. Notably, the left wall is often calm and rarely experiences strong currents, which makes the return journey less strenuous.
    • Marine Life: Typical Mediterranean species, such as groupersjackfishmoray eelsoctopuses, and lionfish, are frequently spotted along this route.
  2. Dive Route 2 – The Hidden Reef:
    • Starting Depth: 18 meters
    • Dive Path: The Hidden Reef is located further from the shore and is best accessed by a boat drop-off due to the extended swimming distance. This reef begins at a depth of 18 meters and drops to depths exceeding 40 meters. The reef is known for its rich biodiversity and is one of the top spots for encountering schools of barracudas and other pelagic species.
    • Marine Life: In addition to barracudas, divers can expect to see stingraysgroupers, and occasionally caretta carettas. This section is especially popular with underwater photographers due to its dynamic underwater landscape.
  3. Dive Route 3 – The Right Wall:
    • Starting Depth: 3 meters
    • Dive Path: This route offers a more shallow and accessible dive, ideal for open water divers. The majority of the dive occurs between 12 and 18 meters, with a steep drop-off at the end of the wall that reaches a maximum depth of 28 meters.
    • Marine Life: Like the left wall, the right wall is home to Mediterranean marine life, including groupersjackfishmoray eelsoctopuses, and lionfish.

Special Features:

  • Underwater Scooters (DPVs) are highly recommended for divers wishing to explore all three routes in a single dive, making the experience more efficient and exciting.
  • The site is known for its diverse marine life, making it a prime location for underwater photography.

Dive Site Characteristics:

  • Maximum Depth: 40+ meters
  • Type of Dive: Reef Dive, Wall Dive, Deep Dive, Boat Dive
  • Ideal For: Open Water DiversAdvanced Divers, and those with higher qualifications. DPV Divers will also enjoy the site’s versatility.

Recommendations:

  • This site is ideal for divers with a wide range of experience levels, but it’s particularly suited for Advanced Divers and those seeking Deep Dive experiences.
  • The combination of three distinct routes allows divers to tailor their dive to their experience level, with options ranging from shallow dives on the right wall to more advanced explorations of the Hidden Reef and left wall.
