CMAS Two Star Diver Course Overview

Advancing to a CMAS Two Star Diver is essential for divers seeking to enhance their expertise and confidence in the water. This course is designed for CMAS One Star Divers (or equivalent certification holders) who have logged a minimum of 20 dives and wish to develop advanced skills to handle emergencies both underwater and on the surface.

Course Structure: The CMAS Two Star Diver Course spans four days and includes 8 training dives. The initial dives will reinforce core competencies obtained during the CMAS One Star Diver training. Participants will conduct open-water dives focused on deep diving, underwater navigation, and comprehensive rescue techniques.

Rescue Dive Skills: Participants will practice the following essential rescue skills:

  • Self-rescue techniques and stress management for divers
  • Proper use of an emergency oxygen kit
  • First aid procedures
  • Swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques
  • Emergency management strategies and scenario handling
  • Approaches for assisting panicked divers
  • Search and recovery methods for missing divers
  • Safe procedures for surfacing an unconscious diver
  • In-water rescue breathing techniques
  • Emergency exit strategies for rescuing a diver
  • First aid for dive-related pressure injuries
  • Handling scenarios involving dive accidents

Deep Diving Module: For the deep diving component, participants will practice:

  • Techniques for dives within a depth range of 18-40 meters
  • Use and selection of specialized deep diving equipment
  • Identifying potential hazards and considerations unique to deep dives, such as increased risk of nitrogen narcosis, air supply management, and adherence to decompression limits
  • Emergency decompression procedures

Navigation Dive Skills: Participants will develop proficiency in:

  • Executing various navigation patterns
  • Applying natural navigation methods for orientation
  • Utilizing a compass for precise turns and course corrections
  • Techniques for marking and relocating underwater objects from the surface
  • Constructing detailed underwater maps
  • Relocating dive sites techniques
  • Estimating distances while navigating underwater

Theoretical Knowledge: The course also includes comprehensive theoretical sessions covering:

  • Recognition and management of diving-related illnesses
  • First aid and advanced rescue techniques
  • Accurate air consumption calculations
  • Principles of nitrogen absorption and decompression safety
  • Considerations specific to deep diving operations
  • Effective use of decompression tables for dive planning
  • Strategies for dive organization and execution
  • Advanced underwater navigation skills

Course Prerequisites: To enroll in the CMAS Two Star Diver Course, participants must:

  • Hold a valid CMAS One Star Diver certification or an equivalent qualification
  • Have a minimum of 20 logged dives
  • Be available for a four-day training commitment
